Marvel - Infinity Saga Talks
Was Thanos really the villain in the Infinity Saga?
Hey guys, Supermutvar here again and yes, I am here to spill some tea on Thanos. I know my Marvel stans are going to come for me for this, but I felt it was absolutely necessary to blog about.
Thanos is a purple mutant, who just so happens to be superhuman as well as a Titanian Eternal, which means you would most definitely lose a fight against him. Thanos felt intent on ending poverty throughout the galaxy in outer space by persecuting innocent mutants that he felt were too greedy and wouldn’t help the future generations move forward. He targeted mainly the parents of younger mutants.
We first meet Thanos in the “Guardian of the Galaxy VOL I” movie. Throughout the movie he is painted as ignorant, forgiving towards Gamora - “adopted daughter” from one of the planets he persecuted people, he is also seen as determined and ruthless.
We also see Thanos again as he appears in the extra scene of “Avengers: Age of Ultron”. He is viewed retrieving a gauntlet/glove that will mean something more in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame”. Not knowing the meaning of the gauntlet or its purpose we instantly know that this can’t be something good as he is a “villain”.
With the first look into the first scene of “Infinity War”, Thanos and his minions have destroyed another planet in search of the six infinity stones. Thor is also featured in this scene. We really see that Thanos could possibly be stronger than Thor aka demi-god aka “god of thunder, son of Odin, King of Azgard”. Thanos is part of a mutant race called the Titanian Eternal which means he is basically superhuman but a purple mutant.
Here’s the real tea I know you guys have been waiting for. So, let’s fast-forward to the second most heart-breaking scene in “Infinity War”. In this scene some of the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy are fighting Thanos on a planet where he is looking for the “time stone” that is in Doctor Strange’s possession. They were able to have him in a chokehold position and Spider-man is very close to slipping the gauntlet off his hand, which contains stones that could possibly disintegrate beings and make Thanos a god. As this is going on Thanos decides to break the news that he killed Gamora, (who is also Star Lord’s girlfriend...ish) in order to get the “soul stone”. Filled with rage Star Lord persists in punching Thanos repeatedly in the face causing the “Avengers” to lose their grip on him. Long story short, Thanos got the “time stone”.
So, who was the real villain? Was it Doctor Strange – who knew all the possible outcomes but let what happened happen, or was it Star Lord or was there no villain? Let’s see, Star Lord got his ten seconds of revenge on Thanos at the cost of four people’s lives. *No Spoilers*. But Star Lord, I guess had a happy-ish ending in “Endgame”.
Some may say Thanos is cruel, inconsiderate and purely evil but in all honesty, we saw that Thanos really wasn’t a villain but someone who was capable of love, and the one thing that really destroyed him was his own pride. Something that went unnoticed was the fact that in order to get the “soul stone” you have to trade a soul for a “soul”, and it only works if you truly love the person you would potentially sacrifice for your own greed. In Thanos’ case it was Gamora. Twisted!!! I know right!!!!
In my opinion Thanos was a mutant who had good intentions to end hunger and poverty originally but just didn’t go about them the right way by killing innocent people and getting carried away by strange desires and greed. Thanos was also smart, he got rid of people strategically by disintegrating them, which we see later backfired on him.
Sadly, this is the end of today’s blog. I think my next blog should be on how I think Thanos will re-appear in “Marvels” new series “The Eternals” or maybe who is the better Spider-man, Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield or the one and only Toby Maguire.
