Did we Really need The Captain Marvel Movie?
My thoughts Initially on Captain Marvel;

Before even watching Captain Marvel I already didn't have much interest in it, I felt there was no point in having this movie. We didn't need a new superhero on the horizon whilst the tension from "Infinity War" lingered, literally everywhere. Although I wasn't really here for this movie, I enjoyed the fact that Stan Lee was alive to star in this movie, and of course the familiar face of Nick Fury was nice to see also.
I hope it wasn't just me that thought Brie Larson's character was supposed to play Captain Marvel's wife. Now...hear me out. I'm still yet to watch the original Captain Marvel movie, but from what I know, Carol Danvers was his love interest, and he, Mar-Vell, came down to earth undercover as a scientist and somewhere along the line...died. So forgive me if I thought her character would play Mar-Vell's wife AKA no powers, maybe gadgets but NO POWERS.
My thoughts on the plot;
I thought the plot was okay, maybe a bit cliché, and to be honest kind of lazy. I mean Marvel could have tried something different, something new, to really knock my socks off. The whole acquired powers by accident or by some bizarre circumstance, I mean, YES it's GOLDEN, as Harry Styles once said...but we've only seen it one too many times. She was supposedly the one that was supposed to swoop down and save the Avengers from Thanos, so that's probably why I was expecting something more...WOW, you know, but it wasn't too bad...I guess.
So, she worked for the air force or navy, she worked with a team of people, one being og Mar-Vell. Mar-Vell planned to save a species in outer space and protect them but also hide the invention she made in order for it to not get into the wrong hands. On an air mission the plain crashed, her and Captain Marvel were faced with one of the bad guys, the invention exploded into Captain Marvel and changed her. She passed out losing all her memory of her previous life as well as what just happened. Long story short she discovers and remembers her past and who is really on her side and her purpose.
Overall I think the addition of the Skrull alien species was a great addition to the plot and movie. They made the movie that much more entertaining, it was honestly quite fun trying to guess and pick out when and when not a Skrull was impersonating someone. MARVEL really got me with the Skrulls. Nick Fury was also a very entertaining addition. What surprised me, was seeing Phil Coulson, aka former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. It was honestly nice to see him, I know with his whole betrayal to the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. agents that he is basically expelled, but it was good to see him. Honestly I want a whole movie on Phil's character to know what exactly led to this betrayal, unless I'm missing something. In this movie he was the Phil we thought we knew but obviously infinity times better, he was different.
ALSO, let's not forget the surprise appearance of the tesseract, I know Loki misses it very much.
My Honest opinion after watching Captain Marvel;
Let me start by saying that it took me about 3 weeks to finish watching the movie. Now let me explain, I've had back to back exams and tests so that was part of the reason, other being I wasn't too invested in the movie, and lastly being I had WI-FI problems at the time. I honestly wasn't too impressed overall, but I did like the fact that we were brought back to present day with the whole Thanos situation and the Avengers. I felt Marvel could have done a lot better with Captain Marvel's character, I rate the fact that they are trying to add more female superheroes, but at the same time, I felt it was too rushed and there wasn't a lot of time put into her Origin story. I wasn't a fan of her fight scenes, I felt they could have been better, it also would have been nice to see a fight scene with her when she either didn't use her powers or didn't have use of them. I know there was one scene where her hands were confined and she couldn't set them free for a good portion of that fight scene, but that scene also shed light on the fact that she may have been too dependant on her powers and may not have trusted other abilities that she may have already had.
The villain wasn't really giving me villainy vibes I will say.
It was a very fun, light-hearted and humorous movie. Do I feel there could have been more to the actual plot and not so much emphasis on the cinematics of the movie, YES! But I guess that's slightly typical in the newer Marvel movies, but hopefully with the new Marvel series it will be different, if not better, but then again I think that is Marvel's niche, which in my opinion is like a polar opposite to DC movies. That's why I think they actually complement each other in a good way.
My final thoughts;
To put it quite plainly, did we really need this Captain Marvel movie, maybe but also maybe not. Maybe not at the crucial time of waiting for Endgame, but it would have been a nice addition after Endgame, apart of the new Marvel series that Marvel would later release. I personally liked Captain Marvel's character, I
just feel Marvel could have done better with her character. Would I watch it again, probably yes, when I do my annual marathon of Marvel and DC movies.
I'm definitely looking forward to doing a comparison blogpost of The Captain Marvel comic version versus The Captain Marvel movie version. So keep a look out for that!
