Wanda And Vision, a comical relief?
Episode 1 : Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience.
Hello Earthlings!!!! Sorry it's been a while, I guess I needed time to think, time to regroup. I have a possibly exciting announcement that I will hopefully release by the end of this year and if not, then next year during the summer. I first need to have a couple things in place first. Before I hop into today's topic, I do want you guys to follow my superhero Instagram account that is linked in the sidebar under the heading "Links to Check Out." You can definitely catch more frequent content on my Instagram, so do make sure to check it out.
Enough with that...let's get into THIS
.
Now I've had constant requests to watch the new marvel series, and I will get around to all of them. Obviously I am still upset that they delayed Black Widow by a whole TWO, yes TWO years, and I will NEVER forget, as in my kids are going to hear about this, in the near future, of course.
I won't even lie to you, I did not know what to expect, I practically had no expectations what so ever. I tend not to expect much from Marvel movies in all honesty, when it comes to deep plots and messages that are consistent, bar X-Men*. And no offense to MCU, its just...well, in recent years, they lack the flavour and rather they go in the direction of TRAUMA, and I mean serious trauma. I was crying for a week straight after Endgame, like no joke. DC on the other hand, know the meaning of "add a little bit of spice" . They just know how to bring a movie along. Although, what I am saying is a bit contradicting considering my Marvel posts out way my DC posts, but just breathe...just breathe.
Okayyy, my thoughts on WandaVision. I honestly found it unusual and I felt a bit uneasy watching it, maybe I thought something out of the blue would happen in the first episode alone, but no, not really.
I will say on the surface it was quite amusing and enjoyable, very light-hearted, it was your typical sitcom. However, maybe my humour is just broken or majority of the "comical" scenes were not actually meant to be comical, but I did not find myself laughing, giggling or gasping for air. But it may just be me!
While we are on the topic of surface level things, there are a few things I would like to mention that I noticed. Firstly, they seem to be living the American dream, self-sufficient, are able to make ends meet and still live pretty comfortably. What I found quite unique was the fact that they were a modern couple with carefree ideology who were almost more or less planted in a more traditional setting. This transcends from the unrealistic, yet desired, belief of a
happily ever after, to the later switch in gender specific norms of the period. For example, when Vision helped Wanda with the cooking whilst he wore her apron, which would not have been the norm then. Now, please correct me if I'm wrong but the first episode seems to be based in around 1930s-1950s.
*DISCLAIMER; I am not an expert, neither did I study films, so please bear that in mind.*
My reason for my assumption is the fact that it is a comedy. Between the years 1930-1950, globally and in America a lot happened in that period. Three very prominent things being The Great Depression, World War II and The Red Scare, which by the way is a very stretched period. So realistically in these times, sitcoms and comical movies would have lifted spirits and took people out of their realities for a moment in time.
However, the whole series, in a sense, acts as a comic relief. Not only with the whole period of years that I mentioned earlier, but also the fact that as superhero stans we basically lost a lot of soldiers in Endgame. So, is this Marvel’s way of saying "yeah lol, we know we basically killed off everyone but enjoy this as a token of our gratitude for your continued support." Which reminds me, love you Mark :-). But by the end of the first episode I could definitely tell it's about to get i-n-t-e-r-e-s-t-i-n-g. But anyways...
Now let's dive a little deeper, shall we?
Side note; I did notice a little communist joke. And I quote, we don't break bread with Bolsheviks.
If you are quite unsure of this statement, the Bolsheviks were a left wing extremist group, their leader at some point being Vladimir Lenin who spoke of Land, Peace and Bread. Which translates to, seizure of private lands and industries, withdrawing from World War I and lastly, an end to food shortages that plagued the USSR. I guess it's America's way of throwing shade at Russia, considering to break bread means to set aside differences and I guess, call it a night.
Moving on.
So this line in the episode really struck me, I felt and still feel I am overthinking it but..I might as well drop this gem for you;-). Forget the past, this is your future. I had no choice but to think if this line is in reference to everything the Avengers went through in order to save the "world", and by "world" I mean America. There is something else I want to add but don't worry, all in due time.

Before I get into what I want to add, I had a thought that maybe, possibly, Wanda is simply in a depressive state or rather coma. Don't get me wrong I'm no doctor, I have no degree to prove otherwise, but I can say it is presumable considering she just lost the love her life, one of the most traumatic moments in her life, that and losing her brother back in "Age of Ultron". But what makes me lean more to the idea that this is her own conjured fantasy and perfect utopia is the fact that in a way she controls what happens. Not like that of a dream where you do not normally control what you dream about, but more so that of a daydream, which is in my opinion a temporary fantasy where everything goes according to plan. Why do I think she controls this "fantasy"? Well...simply for the fact that when yer one, aka Mr. Heart, was chocking on his meal, no one got up to do anything. In fact out of the four people or rather, beings at that table, Wanda seemed the most concerned. I mean, so did Vision but he seemed more like he was waiting for her to tell him what to do. And I'm pretty sure somewhere in Vision's programming, he knows how to perform first aid, because there's literally NO WAY. To prove my point further, it was not until she told him to help the man chocking that he did something.
I will admit this scene was very frightening and disturbing to watch, like it genuinely made me uncomfortable. I was waiting for her to wake up in some villains basement or a hospital or somewhere random and probably not comforting, but no that did not exactly happen.
This was my initial thought watching this scene but by the end of it, my view slightly changed. I now do not necessarily think that Wanda may be in complete control of her fantasy. I think how I like to think of it is like that of an induced coma. One that she may not have actually put herself in.
This is where my previously mentioned addition comes in. I don't know if you guys may be really familiar with “Supergirl”, and if you are not, you better go watch it, that and “The Flash”. But I remember there was one episode where Kara was captured by this creature, that allowed her to live out her desire of wanting to be with her family that died on Krypton. She was in this somewhat perfect, yet distorted utopia, and it took her sister Alex to help get her out of the state she was in. And that one scene at the dinner table in WandaVision literally gave me flashbacks of that one episode of “Supergirl”.
Again during this particular dinner scene, I noticed that when Mr and Mrs Heart started asking Wanda and Vision questions of how they came to be, they couldn't even give answers as to how or provide the couple with some sort of timeline of THEIR relationship, they had no significant memories of each other. At that moment it was like Wanda's character looked directly at the camera from a distance, and it seemed there was a realisation on her end. I started to question, what if she was actually in a stimulation? Is there someone creating this reality or is she the culprit?
Lastly I just want to briefly touch on the end credits. The creative design caught my eye, and I wanted to see if it would give away anything as to what to expect. The colourful designs were quite abstract, left to the viewers own interpretation. At first, to me, the designs seemed like a deck of cards then it quickly transitioned to dominoes, from that, the designs started to look like doors. The type that was in “Monsters inc.”, the floating doors that lead to other "dimensions". Eventually these designs started to form jewels and diamonds, which reminded me of the theme/topic of materialism. That quickly faded, reminding the viewers that all that is fleeting. To top it off, the end credits design was two rings interlocked together. The presence of the rings can mean a number of things, some of which being eternity, immortality, and unity.
Well...that's it for today folks. I am making this a series so stay tuned for the next 8 episodes of this series. I will also be releasing some more blog series based on the new Marvel Series. For DC I will be releasing a review on "Suicide Squad", this will include theories and predictions. And I'm so excited to know that Viola Davis, aka the QUEEN will be in "Suicide Squad".
So see you Earthlings next time, much love. Signing off now, got to go save the world and do some superhero stuff🦸🦸🦸
